Curb Appeal
How long do I have to make an impression? - By Ken Boyd
You have less than 3 seconds to grab the attention of a potential buyer. In less than 3 seconds, upon seeing a home, they have decided if a home appeals to them. The purpose of good curb appeal is to get them in the front door. At that point, as they enter the front, the buyer has made the next like or dislike decision, in less than 3 seconds.
Curb appeal involves the working together of the landscape and home condition. So many factors are involved here. The eye of the buyer should be lead to the front door of the home and not distracted. Distractions that cause the eye to jump around such as birdbaths, benches or stone creatures should be in the back yard. If it has no purpose, it should not be there. A proper landscape has smooth lines that cause the eye to quickly move toward the entry, an entry that says welcome. So many little details contribute to this flow. Just pressure washing the curb in front of the home along with the driveway and sidewalk please the eye. Edging of walks, drives, curbs and especially the bedline of the landscape create that smooth transition to the entry. Remember, the purpose of the landscape is to enhance the home, not over power.
3 seconds, that is all you have to make a positive impression.
